Our History

Jet Container Company was founded in 1977 by Joe Schmitt in Columbus, Ohio. With experience at Corco and Consolidated Packaging, Joe started Jet with just four employees, selling boxes from his car before moving into the company’s first facility.

In 1987, his son Mike joined as a Sales Rep, followed by Steve in 1989. After Joe’s passing in 2001, Mike and Steve took over, later joined by brothers Mark and JT. That same year, they expanded into corrugated design with Richard Prohl, fueling rapid growth. Richard became an owner in 2008.

In 2016, Jet moved to its current 275,000-sq-ft facility on Brentnell Avenue, boosting production and efficiency. Today, under Mike, Steve, and Richard’s leadership, Jet produces over 250 million square feet of packaging annually.

Stephen Schmitt

President

Steve Schmitt serves as the President of the Jet Container Company. Steve has been with Jet Container for over 30 years, starting in customer service after college in 1989.  Steve graduated from Ohio University with a BS in Meteorology.  He then attended flight school at The Ohio State University with plans to be a pilot.  Growing up, Steve spent his summers working at Jet for his father and company founder, Joe. When Joe asked him to join the company he did, and he was eventually promoted into a sales role which he did for many years. Steve moved into the VP, Operations role in 2005 and in 2016, he assumed his new role as President. Steve’s favorite part about his job is the relationships he has built both internally as well as externally with Jet’s customers and vendors.  He likes working closely with the people on his team to solve problems and create value. Outside of work, Steve enjoys spending time with friends and family, boating, cooking and traveling. Steve resides with his wife, Grace, in Blacklick and they have two sons in college, Austin and Zach.  Zach will be graduating from University of Dubuque in April of 2022.  Although Steve is very happy being a “boxman” he is still passionate about aviation and keeps his pilot skills sharp through his flight simulator.

Richard Prohl

Vice President, Design and Technical Sales

Richard Prohl serves as Vice President over design and technical sales for Jet. After 12 years of being in the corrugated industry he joined Jet Container in 2001 and became a shareholder in 2008. With his design and corrugated expertise, Richard has been a critical part of growing the sales volume for the company. He was instrumental in the design and implementation of the current plant facility positioning Jet for continuing growth. He strives to meet the needs of customers through innovative designs. Richard graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design with a BFA in Industrial Design. In his spare time he enjoys making furniture and various woodworking projects in his wood shop in Westerville. He also enjoys being involved in his church and various Bible studies as well as boating, fishing and snowmobiling in the state up north. Westerville has been home to him and his wife, Sarah for the past 25 years where they raised their three children.

Rocco Giovannucci

Director of Sales

Rocco Giovannucci serves as the Director of Sales at Jet Container. He has been with the company since October of 2014. Rocco holds a degree in Business Management from the University of Toledo.  He has over 40 years of experience in the industry previously working with Weyerhauser and Georgia Pacific.  His favorite part about the job is getting to know customers and finding new and creative solutions to each of their challenges. Outside of work, Rocco has 2 children and 2 grandchildren.  When he is not out selling, he enjoys golfing, gardening, jogging, biking, and spending time with his family.

Chip Giardina

Chief Financial Officer

Chip Giardina serves as Chief Financial Officer at Jet Container, where he brings more than 30 years of cross-functional experience in financial leadership, operational strategy, pricing, profitability, and process improvement. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Walsh University and an MBA from Capital University. Throughout his career, Chip has built broad industry expertise across wholesale, service, construction, and manufacturing sectors. Outside of work, he enjoys golfing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Dawn O’Keefe

Accounting Manager

Dawn O’Keefe currently serves as the Accounting Manager at Jet Container. Dawn has been with Jet since December of 2020. Before Jet, she worked for an accounting software company. Dawn is a great asset to the company and enjoys coming to work every day and seeing all of her co-workers. Outside of work, Dawn has three children and resides in the Dublin area. She is the Treasurer of her local church and enjoys singing and visiting breweries.

Julie Cooper

Customer Service Manager

Julie Cooper is the Customer Service Manager for Jet Container. She has been with Jet since January of 2016. Julie’s role is to coordinate and manage the customer service team at Jet and make sure all customer’s orders are fulfilled in a fast and efficient manner. Following school, Julie jumped straight into the corrugated industry and has been in it for over 23 years. What makes Jet Container stand out to her is how everyone operates as a family. Outside of work, Julie enjoys spending time with her kids grandchildren, and friends!

Mackenzie Richard

Human Resources Manager

Mackenzie serves as the Human Resources Manager at Jet Container. She has been with the company since December 2025. Mackenzie holds a degree in Intercultural Communication and Business Administration from Ohio University and has over 10 years of experience in Human Resources across various industries, including manufacturing, finance, contract staffing, and non-profit. Her favorite part of the job is getting to know Jet employees and working on strategies to help drive employee engagement and success. Outside of work, Mackenzie has a niece, a nephew, 3 cats, and 2 horses, and enjoys horseback riding, gardening, traveling, and reading.  

Matt Van Fossen

Production Coordinator

Matt Van Fossen serves as the Production Coordinator for Jet.  In this new role, he is responsible for ordering paper and scheduling the operations in the plant. Prior to this role, Matt was Production Supervisor.  He has been with the company for 17 years where he started out stacking on a machine and learned as much as he could to grow within the company. What he likes about Jet Container is the family atmosphere that is throughout the company. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family in various outdoor activities and watching movies.

Who We Are

General Counsel

Grace Schmitt serves as the General Counsel for Jet, and she also provides human resources support.  Grace began working with the company in this capacity in 2020, but has supported Jet in other capacities throughout the years.  She also supports other clients through her businesses, Grace HR Partners and Landid.  She is a graduate of The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law as well as The University of North Texas College of Business.  Outside of work, Grace enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and various fitness activities.

Zach Schmitt

Systems Coordinator

Zach serves as the Systems Coordinator. In this role, he is responsible for maintaining and improving all systems and software throughout the company. He also spends time assisting customer service, sales, and production! Zach graduated from the University of Dubuque in Iowa where he received a BBA in Business Administration. While at UD, he was a captain for the Men’s Lacrosse team and chair member for the school’s NSLS chapter. Outside of work, Zach enjoys coaching lacrosse, playing golf, and hanging with friends.
